4-1.  Effects on pressure ulcers

Listed in the Japanese Pressure Ulcer Guidelines

In previous pressure ulcer prevention and management guidelines, zinc, arginine and ascorbic acid were the only specific supplements for pressure ulcer.
Collagen peptide was added as an effective nutrient for total care after pressure ulcer occurrence in the guideline revised in 2015.

[ Clinical Trial Conditions ]

  Double-blind placebo controlled randomized trial
 ● Age 39 - 65
Pressure ulcer patients (middle level, stage 2-3)
Basic nursing care was also done(meal, changing position)
 ● Placebo 42 subjects
  Collagen peptide 39 subjects
 ● 10 g/day, 16 weeks (112 days)
 ● Evaluation : PUSH score, PSST score

  Placebo : simulated medicine
Double-blind :   neither the doctors nor the subjects knew who received what treatment

Both PUSH and PSST scores were improved by 20% in the placebo group with standard treatment. However, in the collagen peptide group, the scores were significantly improved by 72% or more.

PUSH, PSST score: The score of the wound depth, amount of wetting fluid, color, size, degree of inflammation, presence or absence of starting tissue, etc. of the patient by a doctor.

4-3.  Evaluation by photographic images

Wound area size

Unit: cm~{2}

Pressure ulcers in two patients improved from stage 3 to stage 2 following oral consumption of collagen peptide for 16 weeks.
