Do you know that collagen was involved in the evolution of life? In ancient Earth, only single-cell organisms existed. Collagen is also believed to have helped accelerate evolution through its ability to mediate intercellular communication.
Yang Guifei was well known as one of the three beauties of the world. Literature states that Yang regularly consumed beauty foods, one of which, “Ejiao” or donkey-hide gelatin, was a Chinese medicinal ingredient made by stewing donkey skins. At the time, Ejiao was a premium ingredient that only individuals with a high status in society were able to obtain. It is said that Ejiao is the original form of collagen.
Ejiao is used as “holy medicine”, and is believed to effectively relieve menstrual pain, provide nourishment, and prevent women’s hair loss following delivery. Ejiao is also known to have beneficial therapeutic effects in the prevention of osteoporosis and development of dry/rough skin. Collagen, loved in the ancient world for its beneficial effects on beauty, is now a well-known ingredient of beauty products. The effect of collagen may have been experienced from the ancient times.
