Since our founding in 1918, we have been engaged in environmentally friendly production as a member of the local community. As large amounts of water and energy are required to manufacture each product, we have been actively and continuously working on a number of initiatives such as reducing our carbon emissions, saving energy, and cutting down on the amount of water we use.
Various problems associated with climate change, such as global warming, have become more serious worldwide, and as such, all companies are required more than ever before to carry out their business activities in a way that is conscious of the environment. Nitta Gelatin will continue to focus on creating a society that is able to develop sustainably through proactive efforts to reduce its impact on the environment.
We, the Nitta Gelatin Group, conduct business activities with the environment, health, and safety in mind for society in general, as well as host communities, and all the employees of the Group, thereby contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.
- We will conserve the environment and ensure health and safety in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- We will assess the impacts that our business activities may have on the environment, health and safety, as well as improve any areas of need by setting targets.
- We will communicate our environment, health and safety policies to all the employees of the Group in order to raise our awareness of such imperatives.
The Environmental Management Committee, consisting of a Board member (director in charge of environmental management), environmental management officer, departmental managers (who are in charge of promoting the environment), chief auditor, and the environmental management secretariat, meets each quarter at the Osaka Plant. The committee reports and discusses on the running of the environmental management system including overseeing environmental targets, and decides on policies.
Environmental performance collected by each department every month is centrally managed by the environmental management secretariat, and the director in charge of environmental management considers measures as and when necessary.
The environmental management system (EMS) at the Osaka Plant has acquired ISO 14001 certification. Nitta Gelatin has set targets to minimize the burden of its production activities on the environment, working to reduce its overall impact on the environment.
