Employees are an important stakeholder in the Company. Our aim is to develop human resources through various training programs, and at the same time create a rewarding workplace. From fiscal 2022, we started an employee engagement survey where our focus is on continuous improvements to the workplace environment and reforming the organizational culture.

Human Resource Development

Nitta Gelatin is working to develop its human resources so that each and every employee can grow in a way that enables them to take up on challenges.

We provide training to give employees the necessary skills or management level, whether it be training for new employees, mid-career employees, managers, or general managers. Results from the training programs are fed back to superiors so that they can support employees with all the appropriate growth opportunities.

We are also giving application-based training and training on management philosophy to develop managers who will lead the Company into the next generation.

In addition to this, employees can choose a training program tailored to their particular needs, be it for a new recruit or an executive. Such training programs include language training for global human resource development, and e-learning programs where employees can choose their own preferred course from a selection of roughly 300 training topics.

Promoting Diversity

Our Approach to Local Recruitment

To continue to grow sustainably together with the local communities in which we conduct business, the Nitta Gelatin Group recruits employees locally to all of its sites. In the main part, local employees make up the majority of staff at our overseas Group companies with non-Japanese employees accounting for 80% of all staff in the Group as a whole. Local hires are also appointed into managerial and executive positions within overseas Group companies.

Supporting Women's Advancement in the Workplace

At Nitta Gelatin, the Human Resources Department provide guidance before maternity leave and offers follow-up support afterwards to help women on their return to work. By creating an environment in which each individual can play an active role regardless of gender, we hope to achieve a female manager ratio of 15% or above by the end of March 2027. In such ways, we are making various efforts to create an environment where women can play an active role in the workplace.

Supporting the Active Participation of Older Employees

Nitta Gelatin has introduced a selective retirement age system to enable older people, with their experience and skills cultivated over many years, to take on wider and more active roles in later life. The purpose of this system is to support a so-called life redesign by allowing employees to choose their own retirement date from anywhere between the ages of 50 and 60. For those people coming up to retirement age, we also provide support on gaining employment at other companies. Conversely, any employee who wishes to continue working after retirement can do so until the age of 65 through the continuous employee system. Older employees who are particularly skilled play an active role within the mentoring program to nurture employees into specialist roles.

Maintaining Work-Life Balance

Flexible Work Styles

With flexible work styles made possible through flextime and telework, as well as a leave system, Nitta Gelatin provides an environment where it is easy to work even if there are restrictions on time and place.

We also make use of web conferencing tools, provide laptop computers, and improve the network environment in order to promote more efficient work and improve the infrastructure that enables these different work styles.

Leave System

Paid leave, hourly paid leave, half-day leave, pre/postnatal leave, nursing care leave, volunteer leave, refreshment leave.

Occupational Health and Safety

At Nitta Gelatin, the Health and Safety Committee plays a central role in preventing occupational accidents and health hazards so that employees can work safely. The committee investigates the cause of any occupational accident and makes every effort to prevent the accident from happening again. The Health and Safety Committee patrols the plant once a month to try and prevent any accidents.

Moreover, all employees, including executives, are required to participate in the Safety Training once a year. The aim of this particular training is to learn from serious occupational accidents that have happened in the past so that employees do not forget and do not let the accidents happen again. Hands-on training is carried out in the Safety Training program giving employees the skills to respond to any accident or disaster, including how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and practice using a fire extinguisher.

Supporting Employee Health Management

Naturally the health of each and every employee is something which is left to the individual, however, as a management issue at Nitta Gelatin, we give support to employees to lead healthy lives. Not only do we conduct health management through health checkups, but since mental health is such an important issue, we also carry out stress checks with the aim of properly understanding employees’ state of mental health, which in turn becomes beneficial for health promotion.

We are also working to maintain the health of our employees with the introduction of chat and video medical consultations so that employees and their families can easily consult with doctors about any physical problems or concerns they may have.
