Resolving Issues in an Aging Society

We have been conducting functional research on collagen peptides for many years. Collagen peptides have been proven to provide a range of functions that are essential for antiaging and maintaining one’s health. These functions include not only the effect of creating better skin  but also have the effect of turning the vascular age clock backwards, and activating cells. Moreover, collagen peptides are said to have various effects such as lowering blood sugar levels, which helps to improve diabetes.

Nitta Gelatin is helping to maintain people's health by proposing ways in which collagen peptides can be used for different situations, and by conducting further functional research through joint research with several universities and research institutes.

We are also carrying out activities to convey the benefits of collagen peptides to many people through presentations at academic conferences and by holding collagen seminars for the general consumer.

Maintaining & Improving Human Health

Research is being carried out on how collagen peptides have the effect of preventing pain in the knee joints and increasing bone density. There are countless instances where athletes injure their joints because of intense or over-training, but the taking of collagen peptides has been proven to be effective in alleviating joint pain and reducing inflammation.

Together with the men’s ekiden running team from Josai University, we have jointly developed a post-workout recovery drink, called RUNSHOT, which aims to aid recovery and prevent injuries for runners. The drink has been provided to many athletes where it is supporting their sports activities.

Another of our collagen peptide products, Wellnex Hadamaru, has been proven to combat decreased skin moisture content and elasticity. This functional food product is beneficial for maintaining and improving people's health.

Resolving Issues in Food

With the pandemic and stay-at-home measures, the need for services such as takeouts and meal deliveries ordered by smartphone has skyrocketed. These types of services have now become firmly embedded into everyday life as a new way to enjoy meals. To help restaurants, which have seen visitor numbers plummet, provide a delivery service, Nitta Gelatin has been offering new proposals for takeouts and deliveries that use gelatin. These innovative ideas include soups that do not spill out of the bowl during transport when no special “non-spill” bowls are available, and bento boxes whose contents stay soft and moist without the need to heat in the microwave.

While hotels and restaurant chains clamor for foodstuffs that can be made easily against the backdrop of labor shortages, loud calls are coming from customers for foods with new texture and foods that taste great. We are actively working to expand sales by increasing our lineup of highly processed commercial products that address these customer issues.

When elderly people lack protein, they are prone to become frail with less strength in their muscles (halfway between being healthy and needing care), and their motor and cognitive functions are more likely to drop off. To improve protein deficiencies in the elderly, we are working on the development and proposal of new products that meet the need for new foods, such as protein-enriched foods, by utilizing our solution-based capabilities cultivated over many years.

Resolving Issues in the Medical Field

In a society with ever increasing innovations in medical technology, Nitta Gelatin aims to contribute to a wide range of medical fields from research to treatment by providing high-quality and safe collagen and gelatin.

We manufacture gelatin for medical use, as well as collagen used in biomaterials such as in artificial bones and skin. These products are then sold to medical device manufacturers and research institutes. We are developing products for regenerative medicine, and are working on the development of new medical materials through joint research with several universities.

Since 2016, we have been hosting the Workshop on Life Science Biomaterials Research to deepen understanding of biomaterials used in the field of life sciences. The workshop promotes exchange between researchers from companies and universities related to the life sciences, and involves activities that greatly expand the potential of biological raw materials.
